7 Tips for Keeping Things Clean!
How to keep things clean and lower your stress!
VACUUM REGULARLY Vacuuming is the most important thing you can do to maintain all of your surfaces between cleanings. Vacuum at least twice per week! Vacuum carpets and area rugs in two directions for most effectiveness.
USE DOORMATS – The less soil tracked indoors, the less often you’ll need to clean your floor. Keep it out of your home with doormats at each exterior door. Vacuum or shake them outside every few days. Additional mats outside the door leading from your garage will trap even more debris.
TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF AT THE DOOR Sometimes it really is the little things that lend themselves to a sparkling abode. When shoes are left at the door you prevent toxins, soil, leaves, and other goodies that quickly dirty up floors from making their way into your home. It isn’t just your shoes. The rest of your outfit has picked up germs too; that’s why you should never sit on your bed with your outside clothes on. Protect your mattress!
WHEN YOU NOTICE A SPILL, CLEAN IT UP RIGHT AWAY Imagine how hard it is to clean up a spilled cup of coffee on the kitchen floor if you’ve let it sit there all night. Mopping it up right away, on the other hand, only a few seconds. The same thing goes for the upholstery, carpets and rest of your house. Spill a few drips of soda on the carpet? Rub it down with a wet cloth right away and it won’t turn into a black mark later.
USE YOUR EXHAUST FANS If you ever change/clean the filters on your exhaust fans (particularly your kitchen) than you know how quickly sticky residue builds up. Imagine how much residue floats in the air before being deposited on surfaces throughout your house when you don’t run it.
Turn it on before you start cooking or showering, and turn it off a bit after you are done.
GET RID OF STUFF YOU DON’T NEED Items stored under beds, in the corners of closets, basically anywhere on the floor will just collect dust and attract spiders, along with making vacuuming less effective (or way more time consuming.) Get rid of those stored items and allow access to all of your flooring, so that dirt and dust cannot build up.
HIRE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICE Not every household budget has room for a regular professional cleaning service, but those who do tend to keep up with daily maintenance for one very important reason. It’s a good motivator to get things put away or moved along into the recycling bin when you know tomorrow is cleaning day and your house won’t get as clean if the cleaning service has to clean around all your stuff. Can’t afford a professional – hosting a weekly dinner party is always a good motivator as well!
