Your complete Fall Cleaning Checklist

Seasonal cleaning events aren’t just reserved for spring! As we shake off the summer, it’s important to set your home up for the coziest time of the year.

Our Fall Cleaning Checklist covers all the key areas to tackle, so you can truly enjoy spending time at home during the colder months. We’ve thought carefully about each step, to make sure you can work through your space quickly and efficiently.

So, roll up your sleeves, stick on your favorite tunes, and get ready to conquer the big fall clean.

1. Dust and declutter

Start off with a thorough dusting of your home – make your way through the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms and be sure to tackle all surfaces, including:

  • Light fixtures and fans
  • Furniture
  • Cabinets and cupboards
  • Shelves
  • Mantlepiece
  • Windowsills
  • San Francisco carpet cleaning

As you make your way through each room, you’ll notice all the knickknacks and seasonal items that you no longer need such as hot weather appliances, old magazines, summery décor, and more. Now’s the perfect time to discard or put them away for next year.

2. Wash and swap bedding and clothing

Get your textiles into a true fall mood – wash your lightweight bedding, throws, and pillowcases and swap them out for your seasonal alternatives.

It’s also a great time to trade your summer wardrobe for your comfy jeans and sweaters. Be sure to store everything in secure containers, to keep it fresh and away from moisture.

3. Clean your mattress

San Francisco carpet cleaningThe days might be getting shorter, but that means you get to stay in bed longer (that’s how it works, right?). Get ready to keep cozy on cool nights, tucked into a nice, fresh mattress.

You should have your mattress cleaned at least twice a year – not only will you feel better, but it ensures that allergens, bacteria, and other particles are cleaned out, so you can truly sleep safe and sound.

Our pro cleaners will use hot water extraction and natural deodorizing and protective products to deep clean and refresh your mattress.

4. Reset your floors

All the beach walks, hikes, or backyard time this summer has followed you inside and found its way into your carpets, rugs, and floors. Give your home a thorough vacuuming to get rid of dirt, dust, and other tiny allergens that are hiding in your home – don’t skip out on those hard-to-reach spots!

If it’s been more than 6 months, consider bringing in the pros. Our deep carpet cleaning service will eliminate the summer hangover of dirt and mess, so you can enjoy a fresh and healthy atmosphere.

5. Deal with your dryer vent

It’s one of those chores that nobody ever wants to tackle – but it’s so important. When lint, dirt, and dust build up in your dryer vent, it becomes a fire hazard – according to the US Fire Administration, almost 3,000 home fires are started each year because of poorly maintained clothes dryers.

When the weather gets cooler, our laundry loads tend to get heavier, due to the thicker clothing and bedding we’re using. Make sure your appliances are ready to handle it – our team can help out if dryer vent cleaning is a job you’re not confident doing yourself.

6. Clean out fridges and freezers

San Francisco carpet cleaningAll those lazy-day leftovers that you tucked away, the frozen fruit that’s seen better days, expired condiments that line the shelves – it’s time to be ruthless. Get your fridge and freezer ready for eggnog, pumpkin pie, and all the other seasonal goodies that await.

Go through each section and compost, recycle, and throw out the reject items. Wipe down and wash each compartment with an all-natural vinegar-and-lemon solution.

7. Pack away the patio

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to give your patio furniture a well-deserved rest. We can help you get your cushions cleaned and ready for storage – learn about why it’s so important (spoiler alert: racoons!).

Now is also a good time to address any other outdoor areas that might need your attention before it gets cold. Think about:

  • Cleaning the gutters
  • Disconnecting hoses
  • Insulating pipes
  • Checking weather stripping
  • Repairing any cracks or loose shingles

When the temperature drops and the days get darker, you’ll be glad you worked through your Fall Cleaning Checklist. It might feel like a long chore, but remember – we’re here to help! Get in touch with our team to find out how we can get your home prepped for fall.
