Tips to keep your carpets looking their best

Your carpet helps to set the mood in your home. If you give it the care it needs, it will make your space feel cozy and look fresh. But if you neglect it, things can quickly become chaotic and uncomfortable…

We’re here to make sure that doesn’t happen! With regular maintenance and routine care, you can keep your carpet in prime condition. Follow these four rules to make it look great, feel good, and keep the peace in your home for years to come.

  1. Vacuum regularly

Even though you might not be able to see it, there’s dirt in your carpet right now. Every single time you step on it, particles get ground into the fibers. It also absorbs microscopic bacteria every day, which can build up and become harmful to your health.

Vacuum busy areas of your carpet, such as the hallway or living room, at least twice a week and less-busy areas at least once a week. Take your time while vacuuming and try to follow a strategic method – divide the room into quadrants and work your way across in a grid-like fashion.

  1. Call the pros

There are just some things you can’t achieve with household cleaning products, which is where our experts come in. While a regular vacuuming routine will help to maintain a fresh look and feel, your carpets should be professionally cleaned 1-2 times each year.

We use specialized cleaning solutions and tools to perform an extensive deep clean, targeting areas that you’re unable to reach. The result is a total refresh for your carpets, both in look and feel. 1. Create a buffer zone

Protecting your carpets from exposure to dirt and mess is the best way to make them look and feel great over the long term. Of course, you should be able to enjoy your home without worrying too much about where you step. However, a few simple precautions can make a big difference.

Position doormats by the entrances to your home (and encourage everyone to use them properly!). Replace them every few months, to ensure they’re in good enough condition to do their job. Consider removing your shoes and wearing socks or slippers when indoors.

If you have a furry friend who regularly tracks in dirt and debris, create a paw-wiping station near the door so you can quickly towel them off before they head off to explore inside.

  1. React fast

Red wine spills, coffee splashes, pasta sauce disasters… Life happens, and sometimes your carpet gets caught in the crossfire. In the event of a spill or stain, make sure to react quickly in order to minimize the impact.

The faster you clean, the less time the substance has to do permanent damage to the carpet’s fibers. However, it’s important to treat the stain correctly, or you could end up making it worse.

If possible, call a professional for advice. If you must treat the stain yourself, try the following:

  • Blot the stain: Use an absorbent cloth to soak up as much of the substance as possible. Don’t scrub or rub – blot at it in small sections to avoid spreading it around.
  • Dilute the stain: Mix a tablespoon of distilled white vinegar with one cup cold water and spray it on a small discreet area to test for colour fading. If it’s good to go, spray it on the stain until the area is wet.
  • Blot the stain again: After a few minutes, continue blotting the area with a fresh cloth, working from the outside in.
  • Dry the area: Once you’ve cleaned up the stain, use dry cloth to soak up any remaining moisture.

Caring for your carpets will easily become part of your regular routine and giving them a bit of attention each week will pay off in the long run. When it’s time for professional treatment, we’re here to help – check out our carpet cleaning services and find your nearest location today.
